Darius has over 18 years of combined experience in investment banking, private equity and investment management which includes transactions such as IPOs, private placements, mergers & acquisitions, privatisations and private equity investments, particularly across Emerging Markets.
Darius started his investment banking career at Citigroup in New York in 1997 with subsequent rotations in London and Hong Kong offices. While at Citigroup, he worked on a number of strategic advisory projects and capital raising transactions for clients such as British Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, Telenor, LG Telecom and Unisys.
In 2001 he decided to pursue his MBA degree at The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania where he focused on Finance and Entrepreneurial Management majors. During his MBA studies, Darius pursued internship with Merrill Lynch investment bank in London and joined the firm upon graduation in 2003 as a top-ranked Associate. Darius joined Credit Suisse investment bank in London in 2004 to focus on projects and clients across Emerging Markets, particularly in Russia and CIS countries. During 2004-2008 he advised clients on a number of high profile transactions, such as a privatisation and IPO ($900m) of Telecom Egypt, initial public offering ($1.4 billion) of Sistema Group, initial public offering of LSR Group ($893m), acquisition of Eircom by Babcock &Brown, initial public offering ($3 billion) of Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (Kazakhstan) and others.
In 2008 he was invited to join Lord Rothschild’s investment management firm Spencer House Capital Management in London where he managed private equity investments at Tau Capital plc, an investment trust listed on London Stock Exchange’s AIM market. Darius was responsible for developing and managing private equity investments in growth companies in Kazakhstan and Central Asia region. He led investments in companies such as Digital TV (later as Alem Communications sold to TeliaSonera) and Teniz Service. In addition, Darius was actively involved in investor relations function within Tau Capital plc with regular investor meetings related to fund’s activities.
Given the changes in the financial market environment in 2010, Spencer House Capital Management made a strategic decision to exit from managing Tau Capital plc and Darius subsequently joined BNP Paribas as the Head of Equity Capital Markets team for Russia, CIS and Central & Eastern Europe. He led the bank’s efforts to advise clients on privatisations and equity capital raising transactions in Central & Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Following the role at BNP Paribas, Darius was invited to join JP Morgan bank as a senior banker to assist in developing the firm’s client relationship coverage in Russia within the Asset Management division (the role he held until late 2014).
Since 2015 Darius is part of the Corporate Finance team at one of the largest energy companies in the world (Saudi Aramco) and is currently advising the company on a number of strategic projects in renewables, power and other sectors. In addition, in September 2017 Darius has also been elected as the Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Supervisory Board of 'Lietuvos Energija' (the largest energy company in Lithuanian and in the Baltics).
Darius graduated with BSBA degree in Finance with highest honours (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Denver, Masters of Studies in International Relations from University of Cambridge and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He speaks fluently in English, Russian and Lithuanian as well as basic fluency in French.
