Misha Belkindas is a leading authority in development of statistical systems. He is a fellow at CASE, served as consultant/advisor to the World Bank, African Development Bank, FAO, UNDP, other agencies and private companies. For over 20 years Dr. Belkindas as manager of the Development Data Groups at the World Bank has been working with key international partners such as United Nations and OECD to promote statistical capacity building in more than 50 countries, among others, in Lithuania, China, India, Russia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kosovo and Sri Lanka. As the World Bank representative he participated in the meetings of United Nations Statistical Commission, United Nations Regional Commissions, OECD Statistical Committee, Steering Committee of Paris21 and others. He supported important global statistical programs such as the lending program STATCAP, Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building, Statistics for Results Facility and the International Comparison Program. In 2013 he co-founded a non-profit organization “Open Data Watch” www.opendatawatch.com which encourages and helps countries to make their statistical systems more open and transparent. Dr. Belkindas holds a PhD in mathematical economics from Central Economic Mathematical Institute of Academy of Sciences in Moscow and a MA in Mathematical Economics from Vilnius University. He is an Honorary Doctor of the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the Ukrainian Academy of Science. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, Royal Statistical Society, American Statistical Association and many other professional organizations. He has widely published on issues of economic modeling, transitional economies and statistical capacity building. Dr. Belkindas is excited to work with one student passionate about economics and/or statistics, and interested in international development.
